Look! I can do a one-handed handstand! Are you envious? Don't you wish you were this GOOD at yoga? I held this pose for 3 hours. Now I'm Enlightened. It's amazing up here. Here's what you should know--the stuff that I've learned from being way up here on this high horse of wisdom, spiritual perfection and godliness:
.
1.) Be very kind. This can be oddly hard. I was at a coffee shop today and the barista asked me how I was doing. I ALMOST just started delivering my coffee order without even a thought. But then I remembered --i slowed down. I responded, I asked him how he was. I got him to smile and even laugh a little. We shared a human moment. A little tiny bit of extra sweetness delivered from your heart goes a long way.
.
2.) Keep "waking up," again and again. This could happen 100 times in a five minute conversation, or moment alone sitting on a park bench. If our mind's status quo is to be in thought, as often as you can, step behind your eyes and be the observer--the one witnessing "Peter" (you) think, talk, act, scroll, etc. The present moment is hugely elusive. It takes a moment to moment remembering, "ah yes, I am here and now, not in that email, previous conversation, etc." Dig in to the moment. it's not always easy and fun, but it's real, and true, and Now.
.
3.) Surround yourself with good company. This is HUGE! You know that saying that we are the combination of the people we spend most time with. It's true! Exit toxic relationships (gracefully),and find people who make you feel curious and excited and grateful and passionate and sexy and inspired!
.
4.) Hang out with puppies. Period.
.
5.) Keep asking yourself tough, weird, deep questions: What is really important? If this were MY life, what would I do? What are my self-limiting beliefs? What do I think about death? Who do I need to say that one thing to--and why haven't I said it yet? What is beyond my understanding? Do I believe in God outside of a religion? What does that even mean? What is preventing me from forgiving? I have no limits...what do I really want to do with my days? Stuff like that....
.
6.) Stop taking yourself so seriously!
